A New Chapter

I'm back at work today. :(

I decided a while ago that I would return on a Friday. I figured that would be easier for me. I have the next 8 hours to get through, but them I get to go home and see the kiddos and enjoy a weekend with them before thinking about next week.

My two maternity leaves are finally over, and it feels so weird, and a bit sad. When I found out I was pregnant with TT, I realized, holy crap! I'll be taking two leaves! My company only allows 12 weeks a year for babies, so I had to split the leaves between my two children. Not ideal at all.

TT was very sweet to her mama, and knew that I was extremely sleep deprived and not looking forward to returning to work, so she decided to sleep from 7pm last night until 5:30am this morning. That's my girl! And I was glad she woke up, because it gave me a chance to feed her, sing to her, and tell her all about our day. I love these moments with my children.

And Nur is always sweet to his mama when it comes to sleep. Nur is my sleeping in boy, so he was still sound asleep when I left for work in the dark. I'm so sad sitting here at work thinking about Nur getting up and me not being there. His baba will still be there, and he'll have the nanny to play with all day, but it still breaks my heart. Can you say a total NO NO in terms of attachment? Believe me when I say I didn't have a choice in the matter. I need to work outside of the home at this point in our lives. All I can hope for is that someday we find a way for me to stay home. I truly enjoyed every moment, even the HARD ones being at home with my babies.

The maternity leaves are officially over. I'm officially a full-time employee with no more extended absenses scheduled. I'm just one of the millions of mamas out there trying to bring in money for the family, raise two healthy and happy children, and trying to find time to be a wife as well. And not to mention keeping the house somewhat presentable. I don't know how people do it, but I guess I will find out.

Here is TT and I this morning before I left for work.

It's so hard trying to find the balancing act of raising a family and earning a living. I have always worked for the most part but sometimes I ask for time off for this event or that event but the sad thing is that you can't always do everything.

Leah,

I cried through this whole post, as it tugged at my heart strings. The thoughts of you leaving your children and how that hurts a Mother...I can't relate, but will know someday what that is like and I can imagine I will be a puddle of tears.

However, as you so eloquently say, you are working for "them", yet you are still providing the most important elements of their lives, FAMILY, LOVE and NURTURING. The sacrifices we make for our children are imeasurable, but out of devotion to their future :)

Have a wonderful weekend and how novel to return on a Friday...good thinking!

Returning to work is NEVER easy after bringing a new childing into the family...I've done it twice now too. Wishing you strength as you get adjusted to this new schedule and lots of patience with chores ;-)

Good luck wih your first day back. I resigned from my job as a teacher to stay home, so I have no experience with this. I do have to say that I ADMIRE working moms. It's a lot to handle but everyone I know who does it, does a great job at handling everything! You will do awesome!

I'm going to look for work anywhere that can allow you to stay home. There is so much wrong with our culture here...mothers and fathers should be at home with their young children.

It IS hard. And there will be hard moments, way on down the line, when you're scrubbing the kitchen after putting them both down and all you want to do is go to bed but there's still so much to do...but it's in those moments you have to pat yourself on the back. You have to recognize that you are AWESOME and you are, in fact, Supermom. And when people say "I don't know how you do it", wear it like a badge of honor. Because you're being the BEST mom to Khalil and Scarlett. You don't have to have a perfect house or be a perfect mom. You just have to be Khalil and Scarlett's perfect mom and, you know, you already are! They love every minute they get with you and don't weigh down your mind or your time with them and T by thinking about how it could be "better". You're their perfect mom just as you are.

Hugs, and have a great day at work!

Ugh. I was wondering when this day would come for you.
I hope things are going okay for you... it's never easy, but you've had so much more to deal with than most of us.
Hang in there and enjoy those HUGS when you get home!!

Oy, it's got to be hard to leave them. I hope today went well and I'm glad you get two days home with your kids before you have to go back again.

I had the exact same idea!! I was supposed to start working the Wednesday, but took 2 days vacation and started the Friday (2 weeks ago).

As a single mom I had to arrange a creche for my little one and have to leave my home before 6AM. Not ideal, but traffic is a problem. At least then I can leave work at 3 PM and be with her 10 minutes later.

All the best with adapting to the work schedule (I am still), and I hope your 2 angels sleep well tonight.

What a difficult thing to have all these roles! You can do it. You're amazing.

Great idea to start back on a Friday! You and Taher are such a good team and you guys will make it work. I'm thinking of you!! Is it possible that Scarlett is getting cuter? :)

it definitely is difficult to find the balance but at the end of the day I find that the only thing that truly matters is that your children are loved and you spend time with them and well the house chores can always wait :)

I also have two little ones and work full-time. I am lucky to have a flexible job that allows me to take time when I need it for doctors appointments, etc.

I find that I actually like having both time away and at home. I know it is ideal for many mamas to be home full time, but for our family we have found a balance that works. Praying you find yours soon too! Your kids will be just fine. Promise. ;)
