Life with TWO 2 Year Olds

I am by no means an expert, afterall, I've only had two 2 year olds for 6 days now.  But I have a feeling the next 6 months with my two 2 year olds will be very interesting.  I'll get to watch Nur and TT grow, and learn, and develop.  I'll also get to watch them tantrum, and be irrational and emotional.  Bring it on!!!  It's going to be a great year.

I have no doubt the terrible 2's exist.  But I've also had my pediatrician say that he thinks life between 1 and 2 is harder than life between 2 and 3.  I've also had friends tell me that when their child turned 3, life got really hard.  So, I'm sure it's all dependent on the individual child.

I've been dealing with 2's since December, and it is an interesting age.  I'm noticing in both of my children the highs are very high, and the lows are very lows.  I can have a child that goes from downright giddy to having a complete tantrum in a matter of seconds.  I have two children that can now communicate exactly what they want, but don't have the comprehension to understand that they don't get everything they want.  I have two children that can do a lot of physical activities now, but they still don't realize the danger of other activities

The communication piece to this age always amazes me.  The things these kids can say now.  I'm often in complete awe over it.  Sure, sometimes the fact that they can talk so much isn't a good thing.  Like when TT was having a tantrum yesterday, and knocked over something on purpose.  Nur got in her face, and said, "No TT.  You in time out!"  Well, this set off my darling daughter even further, and she pushed her brother, and yes, she did get a time out.  But more times than not, the things they say are completely endearing.  Today as I was leaving for work, TT started crying.  Nur came up and grabbed her, and said, "It's ok TT."  Nothing melts my mama heart than seeing a brother and sister who care about each other more than they care about anyone in the whole world.  It's what I always dreamed.

Another thing I really enjoy about 2's so far is their ability to independently play.  As much as I love to get on the floor with my kids and play, sometimes the dishes, laundry, dinner, sweeping, etc needs to get done.  The past week, I have been amazed at how well they both play.  Nur sits and lines up his car, and TT plays with her My Little Ponies and her new house she got for her birthday.  They can now sit and play for 30 minutes all by themselves.  I'm right there, but I'm getting something done.  And I know this will only get easier with time.

Every age has their challenges, and I know 2 won't be any different, but so far, I'm going to look at all the wonderful things that come with being 2.  And I hope that this year brings many good things for my kids, such as:
  • Complete elimination of sippy cups
  • Potty training
  • Better eating skills so I can quit cutting up most foods
  • Continued vocabulary growth
And so many other things.  It's going to be a great year!  I can feel it.

We had our 2 year checkup/shots today and I seriously had NO questions! haha! I usually have a list! It's just so much easier.

I don't cut much up for them anymore. Chicken nuggets and fish sticks, a little. But like today I just cut a hamburger in half and they did fine. Their dad helps them with the spoon, but I've almost stopped that.

I'm totally procrastinating on the potty training! Haha! I SO don't want to do it! Maybe next week...

Mine are just now starting to talk in phrases, so it sounds like yours are doing awesome!

That is hilarious that Nur so "No, TT, you're in time out!" Precious. It is very sweet hearing how they interact with one another. It sounds like they are doing such a great job with communication. I have also heard that terrible 3s are much worse than terrible 2s. I guess we'll see. Thanks for sharing. Heather

I love that Nur put TT in time out. Hilarious! LB is always interested when we are at a friend's house and they go in time out. We have a lot of the same goals for the next year too. I am wishing LB showed more of an interest in potty training. Hoping that day comes soon!

I thought whoever said 2s were bad was full of it. 3s are definitely worse when it comes to tantrums and sassing. However, the strides in which they learn increases and it is amazing. Your kids will start to say things that will make you laugh so hard your eyes will water. Unfortunately, they also start repeating things you say. lol

My potty training advice, pick a long weekend off from work, put them in training pants (not pull-ups) and just tough it out. It sucks during the weekend, but you get it over with.

Here's to a great year!

Holy cow...you are living my life: "I'm noticing in both of my children the highs are very high, and the lows are very lows. I can have a child that goes from downright giddy to having a complete tantrum in a matter of seconds." Sometimes the screaming and tantrums makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time! And get 2 of them going at the same time...oy!
