Here was my commute home from work yesterday. (I felt comfortable taking the picture because traffic wasn't moving. . . At all)
I thought it would be fun to address some of the rumors of MN. I've heard many, and they are pretty funny.
1. Minnesotans's really aren't that good at driving in the snow. Sure, compared to my friends in Texas, we may be superior (and more experienced) but every winter, when the first snowfall comes, people completely forget how to drive in it.
2. We don't all drive trucks. Especially in the city. Sure, if you go to the smaller towns the majority of vehicles are trucks. . . but not in my city.
3. We don't all have crazy accents straight out of the movie Fargo. (Which is actually in ND my friends) But well, I'm not going to lie. . . most of us do. Me included.
4. We don't all love winter. I actually hate it. But, MN draws me in for many different reasons, winters excluded.
5. We don't all have horrible fashion. . . but again I admit. . . many do.
Someday I'll do a post about all the things to LOVE about MN. But I think I'll wait to do that until a nice warm day in June. :-D

I totally don't miss that crap. I am originally from the northwest and dealt with 28 winters before getting out of dodge. I HATED days like the one in your picture. If it did that in Texas, everything would shut down, which is why I love living here. No risking my life to get to and from work. If they even thought that could happen during a work day, they shut the office down and send everyone home early. In fact, I asked in my interview with this company if they were going to expect me to risk my life by driving in snow to get to work. I was quite pleased when the answer was no.
You have my COMPLETE sympathies. If you ever really decide you've had it, consider Texas. ;)

Wow, that's a lot of snow! I know I sure couldn't drive in it. :) I love your list of rumors too...I've definitely heard most of them before! :)
I know we don't have it as bad here in Ohio as you do but I am not a fan of the winter driving! Growing up in OK didn't really prepare me for it. :) Although I think each year it stresses me out less and less so that's good. Stay Warm and be safe!!
...and I'm about 7 hours north of you! Maybe your future post about why you love MN will remind me why I live here!
Yuck! It's looked like that here in Utah too...thanks heaven I got to stay home and didn't have to be on the road with all the maniac drivers!
oh man! When I lived there all I had was a bike. nothing worse then desperately needing something at 4 am after a snow storm. brrr.
I think the "bad-driving-in-the-first-storm-of-the-year" is mandatory every where. People are exactly the same in MA, you know, where 5 inches is a dusting and winters last wayyy too long as well. :)
This post made me laugh! Last winter actually was my LAST winter in MN! We lived there almost 5 years before moving to Texas at the end of last year.
MN is a wonderful state with amazningly kind, generous, warm, friendly people...but, I do NOT miss the MN winter! We were just not MN people, despite the fact that I like to think we are kind, generous, warm and friendly. Perhaps, that's the reason we moved to TX! ;-)

1. Floridian's can't drive in the rain. It rains almost everyday like clockwork at the end of the summer and everyday people forget how to drive in it.
2. Depending on where you are in FL you will see trucks everywhere.
3. Not all of us have Southern accents but depending on where you are it can be really thick. We do say Ya'll.
4. We don't all love Summer. I hate it. But every winter when it doesn't snow and it's upper 70s and I forget about our 100+ degree summers.
5. yes there are people running around FL with Mullets.
There are myths about everywhere in the country and I thought it'd be fun to compare.
I actually find that Fargo-esque accent kind of charming!
Haha on the Texas Snow driver comment! I have a feeling you were referring to ME!!! SO glad I don't have to deal with the snow on regular basis!! Having snow three days last week stressed me out!!

My older sister lives in northern MN and HAAAAAATES the winter. She lives in a teeeeny tiny town of about 600- she actually likes the town, but hate having to drive 1.5 hours to a Wal-Mart. Last winter was really rough for her also.
I am glad that this year it snowed/iced later!!!
I have only been up there in August and September, and it is really nice then.
Have you given away the flip video recorder? I would LOOOOOOOOVE it- I currently keep up to date with all my friends and family far away with my IRL blog, and you tube. My poor sister only gets to come down about once every two years - so we do a lot of videos of normal, mundane stuff and pretend we are close together.
We even bought identical wireless blu-ray players with streaming you tube so we can watch each other on the big screen. I have looked at the flip, but decided to keep using my 'old school' 1mp point and shoot. LOL!!!
