Adoption Update

Our adoption agency called us on Friday letting us know that we missed the deadline which would have allowed us to only travel to Ethiopia once. I wasn't surprised. It would have been a miracle if we would have actually made the deadline.

What is frustrating is that our agency still doesn't seem completely clear on the one or two parents needing to be at court for the hearing. She said technically two parents are supposed to be there, but that our agencies lawyer in Ethiopia said that there may be exceptions based on medical conditions, and that pregnancy is considered a medical condition.

So, after talking to the agency, they sent me a power of attorney form to fill out, where I will grant T power of attorney. They also had me call my OB office and get 3 notarized letters from them saying I am not able to travel at this point in my pregnancy. Hopefully these documents will allow T to travel without me.

Our dossier is currently being translated over in Ethiopia, and I'm not sure how long that takes. I'm anxious to hear about a court date, and nervous about when that court date will be. I mean, what if it is close to my delivery date? I don't want to be nervous and riddled with anxiety that T is going to miss the birth of our daughter. It's already May 10th though, so it's hard to think we could actually get a court date in May. Which means it would be in June, which means. . . The timing of all of this is just a little too close and a little too scary.

I'm trying to remain happy. All I have to do is look at the picture of Khalil, and I know that somehow the timing of all of this WILL work out. Everything WILL be okay.

oh my - that stinks about not making the deadline.
hope the pregnancy is enough of a medical reason not having to fly for the court date.
i have the feeling you will be having both of your babies home in between weeks, maybe even days - so so cool.
blessings,
mel

I hope that the travel time T makes for Khalil and you having the baby doesn't clash... remind yourself tho, sacrifices parents make for their children are great and sometimes heart breaking. If you did have your daughter while T was getting Khalil, you need to stay strong and keep in mind that T is with your baby son, while you work to bring your daughter into your lives. :) THAT is something to be proud of. It will also give you and T memories to share with each other since you couldn't be there for Khalil and he couldn't be there for baby girl. also keep in mind, that even tho it's close in time ... You have a pretty good chance of everything working out the way it should work out.

Sending some strength and courage your way........

That is just plain stressful! I can't imagine and I'm praying that the timing works out perfectly. I'm praying for peace and rest for your soul as you face these next few weeks, what a whirlwind you have going there! You will make it through this and remember, at the other side, is not one but TWO children for you to love after all that you've endured!

Leah, that is tough to not be able to plan very easily, and to have so many big events up in the air. I hope and pray the timing works out well and that you can feel peace in the unknown!
