Decision Made

I am happy to report that T and I have finally made a decision regarding daycare. We interviewed 6 different options. . . both home daycare and nannies. (We excluded daycare centers because they were cost prohibitive for our situation)
We finished our last interview on Saturday morning. We liked all 6 options. Honestly. We didn't see one dud. Our decision would have been SO much easier had we really not liked an option, but all options seemed like good ones. My Mom of course worried that that was because we aren't looking into these candidates enough, but I think we asked good questions. I think there just happens to be a lot of good options out there.

So yesterday, T and I said we would discuss all the options. We ran errands around the city, and then decided to lunch at P.ot Belly. My favorite fast food sandwich shop!!! First T started giving me his thoughts and what his favorite option was. And I wasn't surprised when he and I both had the very same front runner. I am always amazed at how much that man and I agree on. We definitely make a good match.

We decided to go with a nanny!!! It was a difficult decision. The home daycare offered a lot that we really liked. It was the most affordable option, by far, but at the end of the day, there was something that kept bothering us about the home daycare. We are obviously not the "typical" family seeing that we are adopting a child. Well, the home daycare we visited had an infant room, with cribs lined up. T and I kept saying that this would be too similar to an orphanage for Khalil. Khalil will already have adjustment issues, and I already feel horrible that I will only be able to stay home with him for 6 weeks before returning to work. I would feel even more horrible if I put him in a situation that felt in any way like the orphanage he came from. T and I both feel strongly that Khalil needs to get to know our house and our surroundings, so that is why a nanny won out in the end.

Then it was deciding which nanny to hire, as we liked them all. Well, we both agreed on L. She comes from a very large family, and her family is in the process of adopting 4 African American children. Also, she has traveled to Africa on a mission trip. We liked her right away! I've called her references, all which were good, and now we have to make sure her background check is clear. (I'm not that concerned to be honest, but it's a good thing to run regardless)

I'm happy that a decision has been made, and I really hope that this nanny option works out and that our children are in a happy and safe environment. I feel like T and I made the best decision for these children of ours, and I know we can cut things out of our lives to make this option possible. I'm guessing when the kids are a bit older, we'll go more of a daycare route, but when they are little babies, I take so much comfort that they'll be in their home.

I still wish I could stay at home for a while, but that isn't a feasible option for our family at the moment, so I am at peace knowing that we made the next best decision.

And here is a picture of me after making the offer. YAY. :-D

I always liked the option of nanny, because I like the idea that the children get to stay home, in their comfort zone. (Not to mention the fact that it means that you don't have the added job of getting two little ones ready to go out into the world each morning!)

That sounds PERFECT!!

Well, "perfect" would be YOU or T home with the babes, but if that's not possible, I agree that the next best solution is having the babies in their familiar surroundings.

It sounds like this nanny is MADE for you!

Woohoo! I know this has been a big issue for you to figure out. I bet a nanny situation will be very convenient, too - they come to you! Sounds like a great match. Congrats!

That is wonderful news. I wish we had been able to go that route. It was great that my husband was able to work from home until my daughter was 9 months old.

I am glad you found something that brings you happiness and comfort.

How perfect! I'm so glad you both agreed and feel so comfortable with this decision. Such great parents to consider what Khalil would feel like, as that could be traumatic for him being in the same type arrangement. You are going to make amazing parents!! Praying all goes will with L and that it works like a charm!

Leah,

Nannies are the absolute best! I had a nannie growing up and she was wonderful and kind :)

Then, when I was in college I worked as a Nannie for 2 of the sweetest children who were 6 months and 2 years. I nannied them until they were 7 and 8 and loved them so much!

What an amazing mommy you are! Of course daddy is doing his part of awesomeness too :)

Congrats!! I am so amazed that you have gotten through this decision so early on-- but it sounds like the two of you have really thought it through! I agree with you- having a nanny just brings so much comfort. I love that Colby will be home in familiar surroundings... the person caring for him might be different, but at least he'll get to nap in his crib and eat in his high chair and play with his toys. And the undivided attention will be priceless. And, of course, not having to get the little ones packed and out the door will give you more time for AM cuddles!

oh, leah. i think this is a great choice! your babies will get to be at home all day. they won't have to be dropped off and picked up - which will be nice for ALL of you! they'll be able to be on their schedule - not a daycare's schedule. i think you'll all be very at peace this way. :)
